Experience living in a traditional seafront house in the fishing/surfing village of Paul do Mar. Walk barefoot from the house and go for a swim. Develop a deep and lasting connection with the sea.


𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗬
Historic town house owned by generations of fishermen. Situated on the promenade, next to the natural black sand and pebble beach. Renovated inside in 2022 to have all modern amenities. Enter from the promenade to the ground floor where is the kitchen with plenty of storage, induction hob, electric oven, washing machine, microwave, fridge with freezer, kettle and toaster. Table and two comfortable chairs to enjoy the fresh food Madeira has to offer. The bathroom with shower is also at the ground floor. Take the inside stairs to first floor where is the bedroom with a built-in wardrobe for clothes. The bedroom has two windows facing the sea to the South-West and one facing South-East. Take the inside stairs to second floor where you have a desk with two chairs, sofa for two and an internet connected TV. The internet installed is fast (500Mbps) fiber connection with strong WIFI throughout the house. Because of the South-West facing of the house, you will experience many romantic sunsets over the ocean.


𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦
A local grocery store called “O brinquinho” is three minutes walk.
There are vendors that come weekly with their vans on the street bringing fresh bakery products, fruit and vegetables. Two minutes walk towards the port you have three restaurants with meat, fish and vegan dishes. More bars and restaurants exist in the other side of the village.


𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧
There are public busses during weekdays to Calheta and Funchal. You can change the bus at Ribeira Brava for example for more connections. Use the Rome2rio website or the Rodoeste company website to see the up-to-date schedules. There are a few taxi drivers that live in Paul do Mar, one parking next to the restaurants area. There’s plenty of car parking reserved for the street residents, including one spot in front of the house. The house has an electricity socket (220V) outside and can charge an electric car or scooter.

Ocean temperature ranges from a min of 18° in winter to 25° in summer, thanks to the Gulf Stream warm ocean current. The winter and spring attracts surf enthusiasts from around the world. Surfing was first started in the Portuguese island of Madeira in the 70s off the villages of Paul do Mar and Jardim do Mar. With powerful waves that can exceed 10m high, Madeira even hosted a World Big Wave Championship. Relax and fall asleep every night with the soothing ocean ambiance of rolling waves. Take on sea fishing from the shore and catch your fresh dinner.

While Paul do Mar and the gorgeous twin town of Jardim do Mar are mainly flat, any attempt to “escape” them will test you cardiovascular system to the max :). There are three hiking paths connecting the two villages with the communities(Prazeres and Raposeira) above, which are situated at over 600m altitude.

Madeira has numerous micro-climates influenced by many factors, the most important being altitude, proximity to the sea and mountains. The south of the island stays mainly sunny even in winter, where the north stays mainly cloudy. A good rule, if you see productive banana plantations, it's a mild and sunny sub-tropical area. This property scores high in this department and will provide daily temperatures of over 20°C throughout the year. The location is beautiful - not only can you shake hands with the ocean and hear it singing. you to sleep at night, there is an excellent hike minutes from your door that will keep you fit! The home is cosy, clean, and has everything you need to be comfortable. The windows are well placed so you can enjoy fresh air and sunshine. The WIFI is great and will work for anyone doing remote work or wanting to stream Netflix. Alex is the best landlord we've ever had, by miles. He was very patient in answering all my questions before we moved it and really wanted to be sure it was the right place for us. He was an amazing tour guide, showing us some great places on our first day and orientating us to the neighborhood. You can have complete trust in him, which is refreshing and rare. We will visit Paúl do Mar again soon and would stay at Alex's flat anytime!

The perfect house for a beach/surf lifestyle. It is very well equipped, with everything you could possibly need and a 2 second walk from the sea and 2 minute walk to the nearest bars and restaurants - location wise it doesn’t get any better. We do however highly recommend getting a car as there are no real supermarkets in the village and public transport is limited.

Alex is super friendly and will ensure you have a proper Madeiran experience . We left feeling like we had made a friend rather than just met our landlord.
